Magically transport your kids back in time to Medieval Times

Sparks fly off the steel of broad swords, the sound of splintered wood during a joust and half a baby “dragon” for dinner?  Where else but Medieval Times could all of my teenager’s birthday dreams come true.

Medieval Times is a show featuring knights in shining armor on horseback competing to be the Champion of the Realm, defending the honor of her royal highness the Queen and performing feats of athleticism all while guests are fed a filling and delicious meal… no utensils needed.  With 10 locations in the US and Canada, a trip to medieval Spain is not far away.

The Show

Be prepared for serious stage combat, with fast moving horses and exquisitely choreographed fight scenes.  Pageantry abounds with fog, lights, trumpeters and music setting the tone.  Royalty dress in realistic medieval clothing, beautiful horses gallop around the arena, and flags depicting the knights’ coats of armor are displayed and paraded.  A master falconer releases a falcon to fly freely in the arena over the heads of the guests.

The knights toss flowers to fair maidens in the guest seats and my daughter was even gifted a sash from the Champion of the Realm making her the queen of the tournament.  At 7 years old, she was a fervent fan, cheering like a dedicated World Cup fan during the tournament events…which may be why she was awarded the sash.

The Dinner

Kids will love using their hands to eat the meal.  Wet wipes included.  Adult beverages can per purchased separately.  The colorful plastic container is yours to keep.  Half a roast chicken, potato, corn, tomato bisque (soup), garlic bread, and pound cake were served.  Not one of my teenagers or preteen athletes with large appetites left hungry.  The adults in our party were delighted with the quality and taste of the food. The servers were very careful to ask about dietary restrictions and allergies.  Overall, the dinner servers were extremely attentive the entire time.
Photography, Gifts,  Knighthoods and more
A large number of souvenir options can be purchased before, during and after the performance.  Knighthood ceremonies are adorable and make for good photos for a birthday or other celebration.

My recommendations

Take time to get to know the knights, falconer and other royalty before and after the show.  They clearly love what they do.  The training required for the stage combat especially with up to 3 shows daily is intense and shows a true athletic dedication to their craft.  The years put in to study falconry make the relationship between the falcon and his trainer even more special.  The remaining performers are professionals and the staff is dressed to compliment the entire experience.  My children loved posing for photos and collecting autographs after the show.  The show is performed all year round and makes a great celebration gift.  Honestly, every seat in the arena had a terrific view, but springing for the additional upgrades makes it that much more special.  After all, we can’t travel back in time to the land of knights and queens every day?  Or can we? Nobility Forever!
